The Inc. Village of Hempstead Community Development Agency (CDA) seeks to develop a viable community by promoting integrated solutions to housing, a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities for low and moderate income persons. A diverse mix of individuals make Hempstead a thriving and vibrant hub of activity. With a population in excess of 56,000 people living within 4 square miles, the Village of Hempstead is larger than many cities in the country and is the most populous village in New York State

Safe Routes to School
  Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a federal, state and local effort to enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school and to make walking and bicycling to school safe and appealing. The Village of Hempstead has been awarded this grant for 3 schools: Fulton Elementary School $509,905 ABGS Middle School $535,304 Jackson Elementary Schools $527,753 Funding will be allocated towards: Widening and repaving sidewalks High visibility crosswalks and stop bars Signs Speed humps & reduce spped signs
